Floating Piers ReImagine Nature

Floating Piers ReImagine Nature

Between June 18 and July 3 of this year, Italy’s Lake Iseo between Milan and Venice will be reimagined. Controversial art duo Christo Vladimirov Javacheff and the late Jeanne-Claude previously brought ”The Gates” installation to Central Park.

Now Christo is building a brightly-lit 750,000 square foot floating dock, an original concept conceived between Christo and his creative life partner in 1970 before her passing in 2009.

Visitors will be able to experience the piece, walking from Sulzano to Monte Isola and the island of San Paolo while taking in the surrounding mountains. The project has been carefully thought out, with the team assessing how the blanks will undulate on the lake and how the paths will connect to heighten the overall viewing experience of the surrounding landscape.

The bright floating piers won’t end abruptly either, they’ll continue into pedestrian streets for a stretch of 1 mile.
