Famed Playboy Mansion Up For Sale, But Comes With A Guest
The Playboy Mansion could be yours for an outrageous $200 million! But the playboy himself, Hugh Hefner, must come with the property.
The 6-acre estate will be up for sale within the next month, TMZ reports. Built in 1927, the Holmby Hills mansion has 29 rooms — including a wine cellar, screening room and game room — in addition to three zoo and aviary buildings, koi pond, citrus orchard, tennis and basketball courts a swimming pool and a waterfall.
However, the future owner has to provide Playboy founder Hefner, 89, with a life estate that will allow him to live in his infamous mansion until he dies.
Potential buyers should hold off on making an offer, as it’s unlikely the estate is worth that much money. The mansion is notoriously dated and in disrepair; TMZ’s real estate sources note that “the house is a tear-down and the real value is the acreage.” A comparable lot sold recently in the area for $60 million, but with the mansion’s history, it could go for up to $90 million.
Prospective buyers can tour the property, but the master suite — Hef’s bedroom — is off-limits.
Playboy Enterprises purchased the property in 1971 for $1.1 million; $15 million has been invested into it over the years for renovations and expansion.
