Rent a Third Of This Upper East Side Megamansion for $33k

New York City’s priciest home just got less pricey…well, sort of. In June, the three townhouses at 12-16 East 62nd Street were listed as a combined sale for $120 million; but now, according to the Daily News, one of the homes—14 East 62nd Street—is on the market as a rental. The ask: $33,000 per month, which may end up being more attractive to prospective tenants than a selling price that’s north of $100 million. (If you rented for a year, you’d only pay $396,000! Okay, that’s not much better, but…hey, it sounds better than $120 million.)

The townhouse, listed by the Safra banking family, sits in the middle of the three-house combo unit, and was built in 1900. It has three bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms, and a plethora of period details, including fireplaces, herringbone floors, a Juliet balcony, and a grand spiral staircase. “The period details,” so says the brokerbabble, “will have you feeling like you’ve emerged into the glorified past.” (Oh boy.) There are also, as you’d expect for the price, a ridiculous amount of amenities: a ground-floor terrace, several walk-in closets, a washer-dryer, and even more. There’s also a full-time concierge, because what would a lavish townhouse that’s renting for what’s basically a year’s salary be without one?
