Funny Short Starring David Beckham Offers Peek Inside Anderson Coopers Converted Firehouse
Anderson Cooper has kept the interiors of his charming Greenwich Village firehouse-turned-private residence under lock and key—literally—but the CNN anchor has finally swung open his big black door. By way of a cheeky H&M advertising campaign starring David Beckham and Kevin Hart comes some tantalizing glimpses into the 1906 firehouse at 84 West 3rd Street. After Cooper purchased the sprawling building in 2010 for $4.3 million, he tapped architect Cary Tamarkin to lead an overhaul of the Beaux Arts building’s interiors. Charming original details like its brass firepole can still be found in the house, and Cooper himself brought a 19th-century gym to the building. “I’m moving into a new building in New York from 1906, so I’m making a gym from the turn of the century,” Cooper told USA Today not long after nabbing the pad, “I just bought the old kind of weights with big large balls on the ends. Back then there were gymnasiums, climbing ropes in the ceiling: It’s an old firehouse [so] I want it to keep the old firemen’s gym.” The gym makes an appearance in the promotional video, as do the building’s luxurious, yet relaxed living room, a bedroom, and rooftop.
